Halloween celebrations in Algiers

To have fun and celebrate Halloween, Aurora Tennis and Swim Club held a Halloween Tennis Scramble. Glenda Bryan, a tennis coach for Aurora said, “It was a fun tournament. We had three people on each side of the court, and each team could play whatever format they wanted.” Participants enjoyed a special witches brew brought in by R.K. Hoddinott.

Visiting Pet Program

The Visiting Pet Program, which serves the JoEllen Smith Convalescent Center the fourth Sunday of each month, is a 20-year-old nonprofit organization featuring dogs, cats, guinea pigs and rabbits as their animal therapists. The program currently includes over 100 volunteer handlers who visit more than 20 area nursing homes, hospitals and rehabilitation facilities.

Blue Knights Men’s Club Eighth Annual Jazz Walk 5K

The Blue Knights Men’s Club of Holy Name of Mary Parish present their Eighth Annual Jazz Walk 5K road levee race and 1 mile fun run to be held on the west bank levee behind Mardi Gras World. The event is scheduled for Nov. 3 with the Fun Run starting at 8 a.m. and the 5K beginning at 9 a.m.

Friends of the Hubbell Library present Author Night with Mikel Schaefer

Friends of the Hubbell Library present Author Night with Mikel Schaefer, as he discusses Lost in Katrina, his journalistic account of the events in St. Bernard parish, and Phil Sandusky's Painting Katrina. The event takes place Nov. 20 at 6:30pm at Hubbell Branch Library, 725 Pelican Ave. in Algiers Point.

Kiwanis Club of Algiers donations to Kiwanis clubs of Big Easy and Pontchartrain

Recognition goes out to the Kiwanis Club of Algiers for their support of two local Kiwanis clubs that Hurricane Katrina severely affected. The club donated $1,000.00 each to the Kiwanis clubs of Big Easy and Pontchartrain.

Ferry to the Saints

In Algiers we have a unique method of transportation we can take to Saints games. If you have driven to a Saints game this season, you understand how heavy the traffic can be and how difficult it is to find street parking for the big game. Here are a few fellow Algiers residents who have their own unique and fun way of attending Saints games this season.
